The original engraving was published in Ballou’s Pictorial Drawing Room Companion, June 30, 1855. The Falls on the Pawtucket River then were a prominent feature of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The area was a hub for mills and industrial activity, the falls provided power for early industrial development, including Samuel Slater’s mill, which is credited with starting America’s Industrial Revolution.
