These five images reflect Chamberlain's profession, which went beyond simply pasting up wallpaper on clients’ walls. His services extended to colour treatments of mullions, windows and doorframes. These samples of his ideas speak eloquently to his love of colour and sense of style of the period. The mid-19th century was marked by industrial and cultural shifts that deeply influenced home design. The industrial revolution made a wider variety of materials more accessible, while growing wealth among the middle and upper classes allowed for homes that were as decorative as they were functional.
