Rev. John Wesley, A.M.

John Wesley (1703–1791) was an English cleric, theologian, and evangelist who founded Methodism. Educated at Oxford University, he was ordained as an Anglican priest but later led a religious revival emphasizing personal faith, holiness, and social reform. Alongside his brother Charles Wesley, he promoted field preaching, small group discipleship, and charitable works, reaching people beyond traditional church structures. His open-air sermons and tireless itinerant ministry spread Methodist teachings across Britain and America. Wesley’s influence extended beyond religion, shaping movements for education, prison reform, and abolitionism.
